Line Installation: A new standard to satisfy your construction schedule

It is easy to schedule and install natural gas services in your project without the need for multiple phone calls and appointments. This new standard practice for residential meter sets was developed to simplify and speed the construction process. It could also help you secure energy conservation rebates faster.

How it works:

Bullet-01

In coordination with your construction manager and scheduled around the municipal permitting process, Peoples Gas will install a natural gas service line for the home.

Bullet-02

Peoples Gas will then automatically schedule a service technician to set the meter and connect it to an outlet valve set in the off position. The valve is also connected to a downstream pipe capped with a breakaway lock and yellow warning tag. The technician will pressure test the meter set and piping in accordance with all codes.

Bullet-03

At your timing and direction, your licensed and qualified plumbing contractor will install the gas piping and appliances inside the home and connect the meter set to the inside piping.

Bullet-04

Your contractor is required to perform a pressure test to ensure the integrity of the inside piping and appliances. At successful completion of all testing and inspections, the contractor can break the lock and turn the outer valve on to flow natural gas to the home. No additional appointment with Peoples Gas is necessary.

Once the new meter is installed the utility account is established – even if there’s no active usage at the premise – which could help you qualify for rebates quicker. When your homebuyer is ready to move in, a quick call or click to Peoples Gas will initiate the account switch.

On Your Schedule

After Peoples Gas installs the natural gas service line for the home, the remaining steps for the installation can be completed on your schedule at your direction by your licensed and qualified plumbing contractor. This yellow warning tag will be left with the breakaway lock on the capped downstream pipe after the second step of the installation.
